Dr Geoffrey Whitehouse

Specialties

  • Ophthalmology

Dr Geoff Whitehouse graduated from the University of Sydney and completed his ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital. His final year of specialist training with Dr Michael Lawless (past president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS)) and Dr Chris Rogers gave him extensive experience in cataract, corneal and refractive surgery (including experience with the first EXCIMER laser in Australia). He then undertook further subspecialty training in paediatric ophthalmology at Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Sydney and in oculoplastic surgery at University of Calgary, Canada.

Dr Whitehouse founded Forster Eye Surgery 20 years ago. His philosophy is simple - to provide a world class service locally and to respect his patients' opinions and time.

He was the first to introduce objective perimetry (Accumap) outside a teaching institution in Australia, and optical coherence tomography outside of a metropolitan centre in Australia (now seen as standard of care in macula disease).

Dr Whitehouse is actively involved in research on cataract surgery and has designed and patented surgical instruments for cataract surgery which are currently marketed worldwide.  He has presented at numerous Australasian scientific meetings on refractive outcomes.

Dr Whitehouse has been an invited speaker for multinational medical companies Pfizer, Alcon and Hoya at both Australian and international conferences.
